Clothing tips and more...
What should we wear today?
The tips below may help you on your way.
I am often asked if I have tips, what to wear or what to look out for in preparation for a photo shoot, especially when it comes to (large) groups. I like color in my photos. So yes, I definitely have tips.
Your choice of clothing is of course very important for the final result and atmosphere of the photos. Let me start by saying that I think the most important thing is that you feel good in the clothes you are wearing. It may certainly be a bit neater than your daily outfit, but above all, stay yourself. If you are taking a photo with a (large) group, it is especially important that the colors are coordinated. And no, that certainly does not mean that everyone should wear exactly the same (rather not even), but think of matching color shades. In addition, it is also important to properly match the color palette of your clothing to the location of your photo shoot.

If it's a beautiful sunny day I understand that you like to put on your sunglasses, but...
Try not to use your sunglasses for a while, at least an hour before your photo shoot. Your eyes can then get used to the bright light. This somewhat limits the squinting of the eyes and certainly the watering of the eyes on first contact with the bright light. Not to mention the ugly impression of your sunglasses on your nose.
Fluorescent colors are really a 'NO GO' at a photo shoot, but quite frankly very bright colors are just not a good idea in general. Especially for family shoots or a family portrait, it is better to choose calm colors. Technically, it also has its limitations in digital photography. With bright colors (such as red and orange) you soon suffer from colors that clash or colors that reflect on the skin. In post-processing it is a challenge to get everything back together and you want to avoid this during a photo shoot on location.
Avoid completely white garments if you have a (beach/dunes) photo shoot, on a very sunny day. Due to the bright light, white garments can become completely overexposed, also due to the reflection of the sand. Then opt for beautiful soft pastel shades.
Make sure that the selected colors match and complement each other. For example, dark and lighter shades of the same color always go well together. You could also opt for very neutral colors with one accent color.
Do you really have no idea which colors combine beautifully with each other? Look here for inspiration.
Is there one person who 'must' jump out in the photo? For example, your child or grandpa and grandma? Then choose a striking outfit for them and all other family members go for neutral/calm tones. The main character really takes center stage!
Be careful with patterns that are too busy such as stripes, checks and prints that are too large. Smaller patterns on one part of an outfit are fine, but stick to one or two people in the group. Patterns should compliment each other and certainly not distract from the main subject in the photo, you!
If you want to hang your photo in the living room later, all those prints or imprints can be very disturbing. It is therefore best to opt for 'harmony'. Limit patterns and large prints on garments and go for a neutral look.
Your photos will also be delivered in black and white. If you also like black and white photos, be sure to consider how the color combinations will appear in a black and white photo. Make sure that not everyone wears a light top and dark pants/skirts, but alternate this. A mix of light and dark tops and the same goes for the pants/skirts. So make sure you have enough contrast.
Will it be the city, dunes, forest, or beach? Which colors would go best with this, so that you do not disappear into the environment? Contrast is therefore very important. If you go to a green environment, colors such as ocher yellow, burgundy red or cobalt blue can give a very nice effect. On the beach or in the dunes, pastel colors such as light blue, light pink, light green or light brown will combine beautifully.
Are we going to the beach or the dunes? Then it is of course wonderful to take off your shoes. And at all locations it can happen that you sit down. Also keep this in mind. So put on your best, but also your most comfortable clothes.
Long hair is beautiful, but watch the weather closely. It can get windy, especially at beach shoots. Also, in case this is necessary, take things with you to put up any long hair or to brush in between.
Make sure there is absolutely nothing in your pockets. Keys, telephones, chewing gum, coins, etc., it is not a pretty sight in the photo.
Even in cold weather you can take really beautiful pictures. Put on extra layers of clothing or thermal underwear under your nice clothes (I do that too ;-)). Choose nice thick sweaters and cool scarves, then you don't have to wear a thick coat.
If you still have questions after reading the above tips, or if you are unsure about your choice of clothing. Please feel free to contact me. I'm happy to help you!

September 8, Sharon took the photos for our wedding. We were/are happy with her. Super nice pictures that we received very quickly. We have been approached by many guests about the fact that we had such a nice photographer. We would like to thank her but certainly also recommend her.Petra & Michiel
The slideshow is beautiful! We have heard from guests that they really liked that you were so “invisible” on the day. We ourselves had not noticed (how ambiguous). If we see the detailed photos, then it would suggest the opposite. Full of emotion, and with an emphasis on our guests! This was exactly what we had in mind when we decided to approach you. In Russian they call someone who is excellent at what they do a 'master', and we would like to join this. Thanks for everything!Jeroen & Maria
Thanks for the beautiful photos! How do you manage to be everywhere and shoot from all angles without being noticed!! The slideshow is really great too!
THANK YOU! Gillian & Myriam
We are very happy with the result, because what a beautiful quality and sharpness, color and so casual and natural photographed by you...Peter & Sijta
