Clothing tips and more...

What preparations can you make yourself to achieve the best possible end result?
The tips below may help you on your way.

If you still have questions after reading, please don't hesitate to contact me.

A good profile picture shows not only your face, but also a piece of your clothing. That little piece of clothing can make a huge difference in your appearance.

Choose clothing that matches your target group. By choosing the correct clothing you fit within the group and therefore you radiate reliability.

Choose clothing that radiates quality. Quality in clothing is also linked to quality in work.

Smooth fabrics, straight lines and stand-up collars provide a powerful and business-like appearance. Avoid too busy prints or too small checks and thin stripes, these distract too much from your face, and can also cause a very unpleasant effect in the photos, the so-called moiré effect. With this effect, lines and dots take on very strange shapes.

In dark/bright colors you come across as more businesslike and more powerful than in light/pastel tones. In daylight, look in the mirror to see which colors light up your eyes and which evens out the complexion on your face.

Try to really avoid black clothes in your profile picture. Black really looks good on very few people. In addition, it makes your appearance too harsh and often more distant.

Ladies:
I usually recommend taking a few sets (outer clothes) with you. Bring a neat set (eg a jacket with a nice blouse, etc.), but also a more casual set.
Feel free to wear bright colors that look good on you. When choosing a color, also keep your location in mind... which type of clothing will look best at your location.
If you are not sure which colors combine well with each other, be sure to take a look at my pinterest board w-e-a-r-c-o-l-o-r.

Gentlemen:
Bring several ties and possibly an extra jacket. Personally, I really like red ties with a dark suit, but tastes differ of course. Feel free to opt for bright colours. Avoid checks and thin stripes that are too small, they distract too much from your face.

Ladies & Gentlemen:
If you are photographed in front of a white background, do not wear white garments, but choose color/contrast instead.

Also keep in mind that there are no changing rooms at most (outdoor) locations. You will therefore 'have to' change in the open air. I therefore recommend putting on a basic tank top or shirt that fits under all sets, making it very easy to change without creating uncomfortable situations.

Is the outside temperature low, but do you still want to have beautiful photos taken outside on location and do you prefer this without a jacket? Then put on several thin layers to absorb the cold a bit. A photo shoot lasts a maximum of 45 minutes and of course we look for the most sheltered spots. You can definitely put on your coat in the meantime.

  • You communicate with your eyes and your mouth, so also in your portrait photo. Therefore, make sure you have a nice day make-up that shows your eyes and mouth to their best advantage. Make up as you would if you have a business appointment, but above all, be yourself.
  • Don't outline your eyes too black. This narrows your eyes and makes you unnecessarily hard. Preferably choose a color that is close to your own eye color or a color that accentuates your eye color, so that your eyes really start to 'speak'.
  • Choose a lipstick that is close to the natural color of your lips. Otherwise it quickly becomes too loud.
  • Make sure you use a good mascara, where your lashes don't stick together.
  • Foundation ensures an even complexion of your skin. Make sure you don't 'fill up' your face. This looks very unnatural and also gives a mask effect, which is absolutely not beautiful and natural.
  • Avoid using glitter make-up, which can be very disturbing in the photo on a sunny day.
  • I regularly get the question 'Do you recommend a makeup artist?' at a portrait shoot...
II understand that these are extra costs, but good makeup really makes the picture. Investing in a makeup artist for your photo shoot is investing in a perfect end result! In short, never skimp on the makeup artist.
  • If desired, a professional make-up artist can also be present during the photo shoot. You will then be subtly made up in a very natural way. After all, it is the intention that you remain yourself. If this sounds like something to you, feel free to inquire, without any obligation, about the possibilities and costs. If you have a permanent make-up artist yourself, you can of course make an appointment there just before your portrait photo shoot.
  • Wear your hair as you would wear it to an important appointment. You are supposed to look the way you are in the photos.
  • Do you dye your hair and do you have roots? Then make sure you go to the hairdresser before your profile photo shoot.
  • Do you have long hair? Think in advance how you would like to be photographed. With hair loose or up, or perhaps both? In that case, take all necessary items with you to do your hair.
  • And guys... make sure you're clean-shaven or have your beard neatly trimmed. Perhaps it is also a good idea for you to visit the hairdresser beforehand.

Try to keep jewelry to a minimum as much as possible. Large earrings or an eye-catching necklace stand out too much, diverting attention from your eyes. Always remember 'Less is more'.

Sunglasses: If it's a beautiful sunny day, I understand very well that you like to wear sunglasses, but... try not to wear then an hour before your portrait photo shoot is scheduled, so that your eyes can get used to the light conditions. This somewhat helps to prevent you from being squinted in the photo or from your eyes watering due to the sudden bright light. This also prevents you from having two ugly prints on your nose during the photo shoot.

Glasses: Make sure your glasses are clean and something with you to clean your glasses if necessary.

You can think of a park, in the woods, on the beach, in the dunes, in the city, at a specific building, just at your home or office. What suits you best, what do you want to radiate and where do you feel most at ease?

If you have no idea, I can of course always help you with this.

Look in magazines and on the world wide web, which type of portrait photos you like. Pinterest, yes, I love it, is a great place to collect all the photos that appeal to you, as well as to get some inspiration.

Be sure to share what you like with me, so that I know what appeals to you and I can take that into account during your portrait photo shoot.

Leave on time from home or where you have to come from, so that you are on time for your appointment with me. Arriving rushed and stressed is not good for your photos. We often need a little while to get to know each other well, so that I can really capture you as you are. If you are relaxed, this always goes faster than when you first have to catch your breath.

Do not drink too much alcohol and go to bed on time, so that you look refreshed and rested in the photo.
